“It was the most stressful trip I’ve ever been on,” says Conrad Anker. It’s July 5, 2007, and I’m in California, visiting Anker at his parents’ quirky and charming home in Big Oak Flat in the gold-rush country. The house, with wraparound balconies and towering picture windows, sits alone amid a thousand acres of ranch land, commanding a lordly view over the Central Valley to the west.

A 71-year-old man from Japan has reportedly become the oldest person to climb to the summit of Mount Everest.

Retired teacher Katsusuke Yanagisawa scaled the 8,850m (29,035ft) Himalayan peak, breaking the record set by a 70-year-old Japanese man in May 2006.

A Nepalese man who climbed Mt. Everest at age 76 has been officially recognised by Guinness World Records as the oldest person to the world's highest peak.

Briton Peter Kinloch dies after reaching summit of Everest

A British climber died of frostbite and exhaustion in deteriorating weather hours after he achieved his life’s ambition to reach the summit of Everest.

Peter Kinloch, 28, had been determined to complete the Seven Summits Challenge where explorers climb the highest peak of each continent.

Mount Everest, Nepal (CNN) -- Even from more than 21,000 feet up the world's tallest mountain, 13-year-old Jordan Romero couldn't resist the opportunity to greet his mother in a live television broadcast Monday.

"Hi, Mom," Romero said with a wave of his hand during the interview broadcast on CNN from the advance base camp on Mount Everest in Nepal.
